Testimonials

What a meaningful and invaluable experience I had taking Debbie McCulliss' course BODY STORIES. Debbie McCulliss is an extraordinary teacher gifted with depth-filled insights that addressed each student's individual needs, while sensitively tapping into, nurturing, inspiring, and celebrating the heart and soul of our powerful Body Wisdom. She also bestowed her wealth of knowledge and experience in the fascinating area of Narrative Medicine through sharing current and vitally relevant websites, books, articles, conferences, and research. This course was a joy and an inspiration. SF

I completed Debbie's Body Stories class as part of the Certified Journal Facilitator program through the Center for Journal Therapy (Kathleen Adams). The CJF course has provided excellent instructors with courses that are full-bodied and extremely informative. Debbie's class absolutely fell into this criteria. What I found especially powerful in Debbie's class was her passion and depth of knowledge about her subject, the wide range of resources she provided and her responsiveness to our questions. It can be challenging to create a safe on-line environment for a class such as Body Stories and Debbie did an excellent job in this realm as well. I can easily recommend her class for those who are planning to use the process and insights gained in either a professional or personal environment. RH

I’ve long been an avid reader of memoirs about people with serious illness, injury, or disability. Having been fortunate in enjoying good health, my interest in these stories centered around understanding how the authors coped or triumphed, what they learned, how they healed, and how they found meaning in their situations. (Plus I just love a good memoir!) Then when my husband sustained a traumatic brain injury and I later became a journaling facilitator for people with brain injury, this type of story became much more personal and intriguing to me. Eagaer to learn more, I took Debbie McCulliss’ “Body Stories” class through The Center for Journal Therapy. An RN, MS, poet, writer, wellness educator, and Certified Applied Poetry Facilitator, Debbie is a compassionate, expert instructor for this class. With her deep knowledge of the genre called narrative medicine, she led the class through both understanding illness/healing/body narratives and writing our own. Thanks to Debbie, I now understand the importance of listening to and telling our body stories (we all have a body, after all, which changes and ages, even when in good health) and can better assist participants in my workshops to tell their own. I highly recommend this class to anyone interested in narrative medicine. BS
